Each year, I pick something from my garden to study and draw. One year it was tree trunks, last year, lilies and this year, it was a weed called the “Spotted Spurge”. It is a weed that grows well in between the cracks. As I was studying it, I got more and more fascinated with its web-like patterns, the way it forms thousands of seeds, and also its incredible tenacity. It was as beautiful as any plants that are cultivated. And yet, because it is considered a weed, I have never paid close attention to it before. For these drawings, I used a transfer drawing technique using printing ink on plate and drawing on the back side of the paper with a pencil.
